This is a video i just saw on CNN which very much relates to the video we showed in our presentation today. The UK government is planning to increase the price of alcohol to discourage consumers , MAYBE another concern for a startup business like WOU.

Chaffey - Chapter 4

Here is the extra slide I have added so far which has some stuff from chapter of Chaffey's book. I haven't gone in to too much detail as we only have 10 minutes so hopefully I got the main stuff in there. Anyone else got anything to add?

I've been thinking about entering this, for some of the stuff you need teams. If you actually win this you'll pretty much be set with a job as soon as you finish, but you have to produce something pretty spectacular! I've already registered and I'm trying to figure out what section to enter for, but it's hard to think of groundbreaking ideas!

Presentation Update - Presentation has been emailed!

Hi guys, luckily it was saved, just on my external hard drive so here it is. It's not 100% finished, more like 97%! I still need to do a references page.

Aghogo, for one of your slides there is a video i put in, it's an NHS advert that talks about alcohol units which I thought it would be good to slot in and add a bit of... sparkle, to our presentation. It's basically set up so that you mention the negative image of alcohol (from the mind map), then the video fades in, click it to play (its not very long) then it fades back into the mind map where you can talk about the remaining points on the government stalk of the mindmap. If you wanna do it another way or even delete the video its cool but i just thought I'd add something different. It won't play for you because it's on my hard drive at the moment, for the final presentation it will be on the same USB stick so there wont be a problem. Kun, I've done a basic conclusion and contents page, but if you want to add anything else to it to summarise it better then that's fine.

Alice, in your section you will notice that there is one slide with a lot of tiny writing on it. There is also writing in red throughout. DO NOT PANIC! The writing in red is the notes that I have made, and is what the speaker should say to supplement the slides, so once a note has been made of them I will delete them from the slide. Once the red bits are deleted, the font size of the writing can be increased as there is more room for the words on the page, so that should be fine.

Chaffey's book - Presentation

Hi guys I just checked my email and Dr. Pachon reminded us that we should relate some of the stuff from Chaffey's book to our presentation. I should hopefully be getting my copy tomorrow if Amazon hasn't messed anything up but maybe some of you could have a flick through? I'm just sorting out our slides now, we shouldn't have too much left to do!

Hi guys, I've been looking more at the Mintel site and has got tonnes of crazy useful information on there if we read up on most of the stuff there we should be pretty sorted!

You might not be able to access it from home unless you have downloaded the campus connect VPN software from the RHUL computer centre page. You just use your existing RHUL login and password details then sites will recognise that you are viewing them from an academic institution, even when your at home!

Just a quick thought... I was reading the introduction of our good old Dave Chaffey's book and I was reminded of how recent everything surrounding us is, here are the launching dates of some of our everyday ( or almost) internet life:

1996: Hotmail
2001: Wikipedia
2003: Skype
2004: Facebook
2005: Youtube

Yes, Youtube is only 5 years old, and Facebook 6. It reminds us that we did have a life before these websites came along! No Msn, no Skype, no Facebook, no Youtube! Websites that are now probably an integral part of your daily life. Please bear that in mind!

This is just a quick mindmap of our last meeting. The software is really new to me and yes I realise there's a massive chunk of text which is unusual for a mind map, but... I don't know It's my first mind map so I can only improve as I go on I guess!

Also I'm looking into another blog as I don't think this one has an email notification function which would be really useful as we wouldn't have to keep checking back here to see if there is any new content or comments up. I'll keep you posted on how this is going...

Wines of Uruguay: Spread the ViRuS!

Some weekend thinking....


Viruses have three main characteristics; they are SMALL, highly INFECTIOUS and REPRODUCE quickly. These features associated with viruses have made diseases like SARS, Swine Flu and AIDS bring the whole world to a stand still! Although the title of this post may imply that WOU (Wines of Uruguay) spread these diseases – I’ll be expelled from RHUL if I meant that..lol – I am talking about a much healthier virus which has characteristics similar to the three main ones mentioned above…….VIRAL MARKETING.

The concept of viral marketing is simple, pass a SMALL but catching – INFECTIOUS- message to a group/person and then these recipients create a domino effect by sending the message to everyone or most people in their contact lists.

In reality , WOU could integrate ecommerce on its website, fix all the default links and make a portal with all the state of the art technology BUT all these will not be enough to grab the UK Market’s attention to Uruguayan wines , it may still remain an unnoticed business.

My point is that WOU should not just focus on using IT to develop its current business processes to gain customers but also consider using IT to announce its presence in the UK through Viral Marketing - which is practical for small businesses (like WOU) but very effective.

Okay, I couldn't think of a better site name than nog3. It stands for Networked Organisations Group 3. <(0_o)>

I know, I know, but give me a break, it took me 1.5 hours to get home, stuck on the M25 and I'm tired! I had a few other names, but they were umm... a bit crazy. It's probably safer this way.
